To market, to market…

April 22–it’s Earth Day. I’m making grocery totes…reusable, washable, reversible. I used, as a pattern, one that I received several years ago. One that I keep tucked and rolled up in my purse. One that, in fact, the local grocery clerk asks me if I have with me…she’s so used to me whipping that bag out for my purchases. Like most of the other bags I sew, each grocery tote gets “tweaked” as I think about them. The first ones I made were great…simple and sturdy. The next ones were better…reversible! And the one I made today is reversible, but one side is waterproof, too! To market, to market, to buy a fat…fish? bunch of berries? And, as I was stitching this one up, I was thinking that it wouldn’t be all that difficult to add an inner lining like I use in the lunch bags…a grocery tote that’s sturdy, and reversible, and insulated! And pretty, too!!

Winter holiday?

I’ve been working on summer bags. I just finished a couple in this really bright, vibrant print…and it made me warm just to look at them. I could look out my window at the blowing snow, but these bags made me feel …oh, maybe an ocean breeze? And smell suntan lotion? And feel sand under my feet, and just want to dig around in my nice new bag for sandles and my novel and a great big beach towel!

Something Special

I was thinking today…there are only a few weeks left until Valentine’s Day. If you are trying to think of something special for your mom or your daughter…or maybe for a new mom…or a new grandma…or maybe YOURSELF…Kristen makes these great Family Bracelets with silver beads and either Swarovski crystals or natural stones. In fact, for my birthday a couple of weeks ago, she made one for me. It’s a “Grandma’s Bracelet”. I have a new granddaughter, and now I have a bracelet that has stones representing all seven grandchildren’s birth months: April, February, March, November, another February, June, and October.

There’s still time to order one…or three!

Getting ready for spring

Kristen and I are busy, busy this time of year–making soap, cutting and sewing, stringing beads, trying new ideas out on each other. This is great weather for soap making: low humidity makes for excellent drying. It’s also a wonderful time for me to be tucked away in my sewing room, looking out at the snow and the busy bird feeders, listening to my music and stitching away.

New Look for a New Year

After trying several formats for a website, I think we’ve finally settled on one. This one is supposed to be easier to use, maintain, and update. We’ll see.

If you haven’t been introduced to Green Circle Grove before, here’s what you might like to know: our business evolved from our love of scent, color, texture, and the natural world. We considered various mediums through which to express ourselves, but after visiting a Renaissance festival we decided to begin with soaps and fabrics, both of which allow for so many variations, combinations, and interpretations. Since we began working together in November, 2003, Kristen has also begun working with beads. Using Bali and Sterling silver, semi-precious stones, wood and/or vintage glass, she creates wonderful necklaces, earrings, and bracelets that follow our stringent standards for form and design.
